Drinking Buddies

E' l'ultima fatica del poco più che trentenne regista indipendente Joe Swanberg, già autore e regista di diversi film tra cui il mumblecore Hannah Takes the Stairs.

Due amici e colleghi sul lavoro, complice un rapporto molto stretto e intimo, nonostante i rispettivi partners, passano la maggior parte del loro tempo insieme, bevendo birra, giocando e divertendosi. Ma fino a che punto due anime tanto intime riescono a far rimanere uno splendido rapporto entro i limiti dell'amicizia?

Ben girato, in digitale, con la mitica RED Scarlett ormai fedele compagna del cinema più contemporaneo, è ambientato a Chicago, perlopiù presso la fabbrica che produce birra in cui lavorano i protagonisti, e la baita in campagna dove trascorrono un destabilizzante weekend a quattro.

Stupenda Olivia Wilde nel suo ruolo di lavoratrice sexy e un po' maschiaccio completamente bilanciata da Anna Kendrick, perfettina e pacata, quasi uscita da una rivista di giardini provenzali. Perfetti anche i due ruoli maschili interpretati l'uno da Jake Johnson (Safety not Guaranteed), che in qualche modo si ritrova nel suo personaggio di Nick in New Girl, e Ron Livingston, anche lui taciturno e imbronciato quanto il suo Berger di Sex and the City.

Alla camera Ben Richardson, operatore di Beasts of the Southern Wild, profondo curatore d'immagine, con una fotografia accogliente e movimenti dinamici che danno ritmo alla narrazione.

Il grande focus che regge l'intero film è il non detto, il non raccontato, tutto ciò che si può percepire dai vuoti, dagli sguardi e che non viene esplicitato. Se dovessi dire quale parte del film ho amato di più, oltre a tutto il film, direi il finale perché rappresenta quello che non ti aspetti. Ti sorprende. Per tutta la durata del film lo spettatore è indotto a sperare qualcosa che, come succede nella letteratura americana contemporanea, non si capisce mai se accadrà o meno. 


L'aspetto più poetico del film è rappresentato da ciò che non succede.

Drinking buddies: this is the last work of the young independent director Joe Swanberg. He is a very great author and he has already directed other movies (one of these is the mumblecore Hannah Takes the Stairs).

The plot turns around two good friends who spent most of their spare time together, in spite of their own partners. But what is the real line between intimate friendship and love?

Excellent digitally shooted with the great RED Scarlett, now faithful companion of every contemporary film director, the story is set in Chicago, mostly at the beer factory in which the protagonists are working, and the hut in the countryside where they spend a very destabilizing weekend .

Olivia Wild is superb in her role of sexy but tomboyish worker fully balanced by Anna Kendrick, in her prissy and calm role: she seems to get out of a magazine gardens of Provence.

Perfect also the two male roles played one by Jake Johnson, who finds himself in his character of Nick in New Girl, and Ron Livingston, who was also taciturn and morose as his Berger from Sex and the City.

Operator and DOP: Ben Richardson, (Beasts of the Southern Wild), deep image editor, with a photograph welcoming and dynamic movements that give rhythm to the narrative.

The big focus that supports the entire film is not said.

If I had to say which part of the movie I loved the most, I'd say the ending because it is not what you expect. It’ll surprise you.

From the beginning you’ll be induced to hope for something that, as happens in contemporary American literature, you’ll never know if it happen or not. The most poetic of the film is represented by what does not happen.
